Andy Cross

Andy Cross was born in Boston Massachusetts. He attended the Maine College of Art in Portland where he received his BFA in photography in 1999. After finishing his undergraduate degree he continued to live in Maine and teach photography in adult education and worked in the commercial photography business. The Northeastern landscape and architecture is where he first started his photographic explorations of human interactions with the land, often looking at spaces, structures that were left behind. These buildings, spaces, and the moments in transition of light and time have been an ongoing concept through all of his work starting in New England. He also began to travel across the country to explore his photographic vision and became interested in exploring the West. Knowing he needed more time and a reason to focus his exploration of the western landscape he pursued a MFA in photography at the San Francisco Art Institute. After completing his MFA in San Francisco he moved to Los Angeles to work as a freelance photographer and continue his personal focus on the urban and rural American landscapes. His photographs are published and exhibited nationally. He now lives in San Diego and is a professor of Visual Art at the University of San Diego.
