Lynne Nichols

In my youth, I was "drawn" to drawing and printmaking and continue to benefit from the lessons in "seeing" and "design" that both practices offered. Studio-art and art history were initial educational interests and I pursued both as a college undergraduate. Following graduation, I traveled in Spain, France, Italy and Greece via rail and ferry boats, to experience art-history first-hand, visiting the Reina Sofía National Art Centre, Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, Prado Museum, Dalí Theatre Museum, Picasso Museum, El Greco Museum, the Pilar and Joan Miro Foundation (Mallorca), the Alhambra, Louvre, Rome's Colosseum, and multiple ancient antiquity sites from Athens throughout the Peloponnese coast. I practiced spotty Spanish, French and Greek along the way. The state of Maine remains my first and last love, however. Raised in a middle-class, single-parent home, with strong extended family bonds, like many generations of Mainers, I have learned independence and self-sufficiency. I continue to direct my gaze primarily towards Maine's places, properties, and people. I explore and examine strong feelings about the "state of the state". My love of travel also persists, so I escape now and again, wanderlust taking hold, offering new sights and adventures to fill out this life....

I am drawn to curious juxtapositions, perspectives, relationships, and compositions. I particularly enjoy capturing form / light / pattern / contrast / gesture and combinations thereof.

My European travels were the impetus for discovering photography. Many years later, in early 2023, after a couple photography classes offered through the Bakery Photography Collective, I joined as a member.
