Richard Wexler

Richard has always been interested in the little things that people do - how they fidget, what elicits a smile, frown or cry, how they connect with each other and interact with the world around them. He says, “it helps me connect with them … seeing what we have in common … our shared human nature”. Richard grew up in Baltimore and photography has been a lifelong interest. After many years working as a physician and medical director while living in Maine, retirement now allows him to further explore and develop this interest.  He’s studied photography in Portland, Boston and Paris and is a board member of the Bakery Photo Collective.  His work is included in several private collections and the permanent collection at the University of New England.  He’s had two recent solo exhibits at the Maine Jewish Museum and his images have been shown as part of group exhibits at Speedwell Gallery, the UNE Art Gallery, and the Maine Museum of Photographic Arts. All of Richard’s images are candid shots.  As he puts it, “there’s a moment when everything comes together, the light and composition, and of course the people”.  He tries his best to anticipate that moment and then to capture it so it can live on.
