Dean Merrill

Much of my career has been driven by the ageless and universal Artist impulse to create. Starting with 35mm and digital media, I have worked in various creative arenas for nearly 25 years. For the first 10 years working as a professional artist I created in the design space making logos, web sites, and print material for artists and national companies before finishing as a Sr. Art Director at L.L. Bean.

Transitioning from design to the realm of motion in 2010, I founded TEDxDirigo and moved-on to lens various award winning feature, short films, documentaries, and commercials. Of these projects some have been featured in Filmmaker, Indiewire, MovieMaker magazines. Others would be highlighted in The New York Times, and National Public Radio (NPR).

As a constant through all of this work has been my pursuit of still photography, working in medium and large format. Most of this work has been centered around the pursuit of capturing my immense sense of awe and reverence for nature. My current projects are centered around Indigenous Sovereignty, and Climate Change.

Outside of making I spend my time playing the fiddle, surfing, climbing, sailing, skiing, and sitting in nature.
